About CEIS Group
The CEIS Group is a leader in creating a more inclusive economy for Scotland. Founded in 1984, we’ve grown from a local initiative in Strathclyde to a nationwide group of companies dedicated to tackling inequality, strengthening communities, and improving the performance and impact of socially-minded businesses.
Our History
CEIS began in 1984 as Strathclyde Community Business (SCB), formed to bring enterprise support to community enterprises in the Strathclyde Regional Council area. Over the years, we’ve expanded our reach and impact:
- 1991: Developing Strathclyde Limited (DSL) was founded to provide loan financing to small and medium enterprises in Strathclyde
- 2003: DSL became a subsidiary of CEIS
- 2004: CEIS Development and Regeneration Team won its first tenders in Ayrshire
- 2007: CEIS Ayrshire was incorporated
- 2009: We rebranded as Community Enterprise in Scotland
- 2010: Social Value Lab was established as a joint venture
Our Group Structure
Today, the CEIS Group comprises four main companies, each with a specific focus but all working towards our shared vision:
- CEIS: Providing business support and market building for all forms of impact-driven enterprise.
- DSL Business Finance: Offering accessible finance and expert guidance for businesses to start, scale, and grow their impact.
- CEIS Ayrshire: Equipping individuals, businesses, and communities with skills, training, and employability support.
- Social Value Lab: Gathering and communicating evidence of economic, social, and environmental impact through design, research, and evaluation.
