Executive Director

Simon has held leadership roles in global research and design agencies and led programmes across national governments, charities, and the private sector. He has worked with significant clients such as the Gates Foundation, the NHS, the Home Office, and the International Rescue Committee.

Before joining CEIS, he was the Head of Regional Development for the UK innovation agency Connected Places Catapult. There, he led projects to ensure communities could benefit from and participate in a more inclusive innovation economy.

James joined CEIS in May 2005 and works as a Business Adviser. With over 22 years experience in business management and consultancy, James is a very experienced adviser capable of offering advice and support across the range of business competencies, including business and strategic planning; new product development; marketing; and finance. He specialises in delivering intervention work on behalf of some of Scotland’s main public sector agencies including the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council.

Prior to working with CEIS, James worked for Motorola Semiconductors for 12 years, holding seven different positions increasing in responsibility up to European Management level.

Roddy joined CEIS in 2009 as a Business Adviser within the Enterprise & Communities Team. A qualified accountant, Roddy currently specialises in providing business planning and finance support to social enterprises in the recycling, regeneration and community transport sectors. In addition Roddy advises clients on how access public sector procurement opportunities and how to write effective tenders. He also supports public sector procurement agencies with the development of community benefit clauses.

Joanne has over ten years event management experience in small and large scale events delivered locally, nationally and internationally for 10 – 1,200 delegates including study visits, workshops, executive dinners, gala dinners, conferences, trade shows and online events. She also has an extensive portfolio of inward visit programme management to the UK, including delegations from America, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa.

In her spare time, she likes to read, go to the theatre, socialise with friends and family and keep fit, this has included running, going to the gym, swimming, outdoor bootcamp classes and ice-skating lessons up to silver award.

Iain Burnside

Iain Burnside

Chief Operation Officer - DSL Business Finance

Iain joined DSL as a Loan Officer in February 2018, with his responsibilities expanding in June 2022 to include Credit Underwriting. In March 2024, Iain was appointed as DSL’s Chief Operating Officer.

An accomplished banker and senior professional with extensive expertise in the Scottish SME marketplace, Iain brings with him a wealth of knowledge and skills acquired over a successful career of over 37 years, primarily with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). Throughout his time at RBS, he held various roles across branch banking and senior management, making significant contributions to Business and Commercial Banking.

Moving from RBS, Iain ventured into the entrepreneurial realm, serving as CEO of an Aviation Group on a consultancy basis. This experience provided invaluable insights into the challenges of business ownership, alongside a deep appreciation for the fulfilment derived from business achievements.

As a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (FCIB) in Scotland and a graduate of Common Purpose, Iain remains dedicated to professional development and excellence. Outside of his professional pursuits, Iain is a keen rugby follower (playing days, regrettably long gone), enjoys golf, eating out and socialising.

David is an experienced consultant, specialising in evaluation, strategy development, business support and social value. He has over 20 years experience with Hall Aitken prior to joining Social Value Lab.

He started working life in world-wide oil and gas exploration before moving into community regeneration work.  He has set up local economic initiatives, social enterprises and managed European Structural Funds when working at Strathclyde European Partnership.

His clients include NHS Education for Scotland, Scottish Government, Skills Development Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Sport England, Premier League Charitable Fund, Department for Education,  The National Lottery Heritage and Community Funds, many local authorities and scores of Voluntary Community and Social Enterprises.

Mark began his marketing career at Kibble in 2015 before moving to the private sector in 2017. He joined CEIS in 2022, returning to the third sector, like he had always planned to do.

Mark brings a wealth of internal and external communications knowledge to the business. He has extensive experience working on organic and paid social media campaigns across a range of platforms, as well as demonstrating skill across Google AdWords, SEO, copywriting, photography, videography, and digital design.

Hannah joined CEIS in May 2023 following several years as a marketer in the private sector, working in a diverse range of areas including intellectual property valuation, SaaS and mental health training.

Her experience includes content creation, graphic design, social media and email marketing, events, CRM management, automation, business development and more.

Prior to commencing her marketing career, Hannah spent over 8 years running her own small business.

As a parent of three neurodivergent daughters and having received her own diagnosis of ADHD in 2021, Hannah also has a keen interest in DEI and co-chairs the Lived Experience Advisory Panel for the Scottish Government’s forthcoming Learning Disability, Autism and Neurodiversity Bill.

A seasoned IT Manager with over 30 years of experience with technology the last 15 in the third sector. Specializing in implementing innovative technological solutions to streamline operations and enhance system efficiency. His expertise spans across multi cloud development, cyber security,  software and project management.
Successfully managed numerous high-impact projects, including several complete system migrations and cloud integrations that have resulted a significant increase in system efficiency. Known for his strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, he has a proven track record of leading cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Alumni of Glasgow University and a Microsoft System Engineer for the past 20 years, Certified in Project Management & Ethical Hacking among others.

Bryan Hamilton

Bryan Hamilton

People, Skills & Culture Manager

Bryan has been with CEIS Ayrshire since 2008, he started as a Jobs Access Worker then progressing on to being DWP Service Lead, then Skills and Training Services Manger before taking on the People, Skills and Culture Manager role earlier this year.

Bryan has a long and varied background in the third sector including as Lifelong Learning Manager for a LEDC in Glasgow, Corporate Support Manager for a development company in Ayrshire, and Head of IT for the same company. He was also a Business Adviser with an IT specialism in an Enterprise Trust, a Management Accounts Adviser and Trainer in Employability.

He brings a great deal of experience of HR, training and development, staff support and systems management to the job.

Bryan has an MA (Hons) Degree in English and American Studies from the University of Dundee.
